"Are you curious?"
What parents fit best at Acton Academy?
Welcome! If you found this page, you're probably considering a big change in your child's education. Congratulations on taking the first step!
While many people understand that traditional education is failing, it takes courage to make a switch. More and more parents are choosing Acton Academy, not because it is easy, but because they realize it will change the paradigm for their children.
You may have questions like,
-
“What if my child needs help or falls behind?”
-
“What if they miss team sports, band, etc?”
-
"What if this doesn't work?"
...and these questions could be asked about any type of schooling. Enrolling at a private school doesn't automatically make your worries go away. We will cover these topics at your tour or info session, but the type of parents and children that fit in well at Acton are looking for things you can't get in public school or homeschool--
A sense of true community (other parents who "get" you); warm family events that spark real connections; discussions with like-minded people who also work hard, think critically, and act ethically; ideas and inspiration for your own Hero's Journey.
Ownership of learning for children of all ages (even our youngest learners). At Acton we are learner-driven. By not rescuing for small things, children learn early that they are capable.
Innovation and excellence. Parents know we care about improving systems as we fine-tune the school for our Tribe; our community. We have more than certifications, teaching degrees, and passion-- we have experience.
We were once in your shoes. Since launching Evoke, we've noticed similarities in the parents of our learners. While it would be easy to say we fit best with certain personalities, the reality is that our parents are all completely different! They come from various industries. They are split on politics, religion, and come from diverse cultural backgrounds.
The underlying similarities have more to do with the way they handle problems.
After all, the careers of our children will not be like ours. In our fast moving world, we can't predict the next 5 years, much less the careers of tomorrow. What matters now is character. We are building strong, resilient leaders who will be ready for anything.
Evoke parents seek community, a safe place for their children to try and fail, and outside-the-box thinking that produces leaders of the future.

How do the words, "grit" and "determination" feel to you? If they make you feel strong or think of stories from your past when you pushed through difficulty, you might be ready for Acton...

What guides fit best at Acton Academy?
-
Evoke guides are experienced educators who are patient and calm while learners organize themselves in group activities and self-governance, first to equip and uphold guardrails, and then to step back when learners are ready.
-
Spark lead guides are certified in Montessori with experience in Reggio or Waldorf environments, and passionate about continued learning.
-
Apprentice and assistant guides are pursuing Montessori certifications and training with Acton Academy to become lead guides.
-
All guides are interested in equipping children for the future while constantly working to improve our systems.
We look for educators who are fed up with the traditional schooling systems, who are ready to change the world and let children lead.
While certifications and education are important to us, we also look for former coaches, tutors, therapists, and camp counselors who have worked with children for many years and understand child development and the needs of each age group.

IS YOUR FAMILY READY FOR ACTON?
This unique method of learning is drastically different from the traditional model of education, especially that of public school. While many learners flourish here, it's not the right school for everyone. Families must be 100% committed and ready for a change. What type of learners and parents fit best?
